This family owned handmade artisan gallery, showcases beautiful jewelry, art, ceramics and pottery, woodwork, fiber arts, photography, furniture, home decor and more. Sarita Kamat opened Artem Pop Up Gallery in 2019 with a mission to promote and create enthusiasm about handcrafted art by local and regional artists. We went to the shelter planning to adopt just two siblings, but they were in a shared space with another pair of siblings, and we couldn't bear to break up the family. Outside of Evanston, what is your favorite city: Dublin, Irelandĭid you pick up any new hobbies during Covid: Meditating (to relieve anxiety!)ĭo you have any talents outside of being an awesome business owner: Not sure that it qualifies as actual talent., but I have participated in the annual Revue for the Woman's Club of Evanston, making a fool of myself, singing and dancing for charity! We were sad not to do one in 2021 or 2022, but I hope to be on stage again in March 2023.ĭo you have any pets: I'm a crazy cat lady. When they are busy with other activities, I write poetry, read novels, or binge watch Netflix.ĭo you have a motto: Don't quit before you start. When you are not working, what is your favorite way to spend time: I spend most of my free time with my kids here in Evanston. Now that I have expanded to 3 locations, I couldn't possibly do it all without them. The best thing is that I have built up an amazing team to keep things running smoothly. I've learned a ton in the last decade from founding and managing this business. What is your favorite thing about owning your own business: I am always energized by facing new challenges. What other business(es) in Downtown Evanston do you frequent: Through my 6 years on the board of the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, I've met many Evanston business owners and managers, so I try to bounce around to as many as possible rather than frequenting just a few. What career(s) did you have before owning your business: I was a bookstore manager in my 20s, an editor in educational publishing in my 30s, and now I'm an entrepreneur in my 40s. I went looking for a coworking space and found that Evanston didn't have one at the time-so I decided I should change that. What motivated you to start/open your business: I was freelancing, and I decided I didn't like working from home! I missed having coworkers and a better separation of work and family life. How many years have you had a business in Downtown Evanston: 11 years Creative Coworking acts as a bridge by introducing coworking members, guests, and clients to the work of talented artists and by introducing artists and their fans to a multi-use space in the heart of downtown Evanston. Plus, all three stories double as a fully-operating art gallery.
